Palace Tripković

Tripković Palace was built in the late 18th century, as one of most stately baroque ship- masters’ mansions of the Boka Kotorska Bay. In 18th century family Tripković played an important part in the development of Dobrota in the field of trade, development of merchant fleet, construction and cultural development. They had 18 vessels, and during the 18th and 19th century 86 seamen from this family were recorded of which 63 masters.

The palace is withdrawn from the shore and raised on a plateau, retained by the stone parapet with long balustrade, and contains a garden, too. In the parapet there is a portal with family heraldic insignia. In front of the Palace there is a landing place -jetty with a spacious mole enclosed boat-port that used to belong to the Palace. Behind the Palace are terraced gardens.
The Palace is built of fine trimmed stone from Korčula Island, it contains a vault, two floors and a fourth level suited to be a belvedere, with a baroque shaped gable. The very top of the belvedere bears a tower shaped decoration. The facade is dominated by a balcony on the second floor, whose supporting consoles are covered with ornaments with acanthus leaf motif.

On the first floor there is a central lounge from which doors lead to the neighbouring rooms and to the staircase. The same array is applied on the second floor. On the back part of the palace towards the hill there is an annex containing the kitchen. The inside was characterized by floors of double coloured terracotta, wooden beams on the ceiling, walls with baroque plaster decoration and the staircase with balustrade. The Palace was richly furnished with works of art, style furniture, books etc.

Tripković Palace is one of the most monumental palaces in Boka. That monumentality is stressed by its base, terrace with baroque balustrade, clear baroque conception and affluently made architectural details, as well as by the „background” of this composition consisting of rough and bare Dobrota slopes that reach the height up to 1000 m above the sea.
